01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Ferrari Superamerica 45, commissioned by Peter Kalikow, stands as a unique and exclusive creation by Ferrari, unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2011. This bespoke roadster pays homage to the classic Ferrari 400 Superamerica, with the designation “45” signifying the 45th year since Kalikow’s initial request to Ferrari. Designed by Pininfarina, the Superamerica 45 exhibits distinctive styling cues inspired by Ferrari’s iconic models. It features two prominent air intakes on the hood, reminiscent of the airflow solutions seen in high-performance Ferraris. While it draws some design elements from the P540 Superfast Aperta, another bespoke Ferrari, the Superamerica 45 asserts its unique identity with several notable differences. Under the hood lies a powerful 6.0-liter V12 engine, positioned at the front to deliver exhilarating performance characteristic of Ferrari’s grand tourers. This engine configuration ensures a balance of power and precision, typical of Ferrari’s engineering excellence. The body style of the Superamerica 45 shares its foundation with the 599 GTB Fiorano, known for its dynamic handling and elegant design. However, Pininfarina’s design touches elevate the Superamerica 45 to a bespoke level, combining modern aesthetics with Ferrari’s rich heritage. The Superamerica 45 represents a fusion of timeless Ferrari design principles and innovative engineering. It exemplifies Ferrari’s ability to create bespoke vehicles that cater to the discerning tastes of collectors and enthusiasts, pushing the boundaries of automotive design and performance. As a one-off creation, it stands as a testament to Ferrari’s craftsmanship and dedication to delivering exclusive, high-performance vehicles that captivate both on the road and at prestigious automotive events like the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
