01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Bentley Camargue from the year 1985 stands as an extraordinary rarity in automotive history, with only one unit ever produced by the factory. Identified by the distinctive chassis number SCBYJ000XFCH10150, this singular masterpiece embodies exclusivity and unparalleled craftsmanship. Developed in collaboration with Pininfarina, the Camargue showcases a unique design by Paolo Martin, marked by elegant lines and a luxurious silhouette. Notably, it features the standard wheel covers seen on the Corniche, adding a touch of sophistication. Inside, the Camargue captivates with a dashboard trim inspired by airplane instruments, creating an ambiance that seamlessly blends luxury and aeronautical aesthetics. This meticulous attention to detail exemplifies the bespoke nature of Bentley’s craftsmanship. Originally, plans were in place for additional Bentley Camargues, equipped with turbo engines. However, due to a decline in sales, the turbo variant was instead introduced on the Bentley Mulsanne in 1982. This decision adds a historical layer to the Camargue’s narrative, emphasizing the model’s significance within the context of Bentley’s broader product strategy. In later years, some Rolls-Royce Camargues underwent a unique transformation, as their owners opted to adorn them with a Bentley grille. Despite this modification, these cars retained their original Rolls-Royce chassis numbers, creating a fascinating blend of individualization and automotive history. The 1985 Bentley Camargue, with its singular production, unique design elements, and intriguing historical connections, stands as a testament to the bespoke luxury and timeless appeal that defines the Bentley marque.
