01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Giannini 950 Vignale is essentially a finely tuned version of the Fiat 850 Coupé Vignale, also affectionately known as the Vignalina. This unique model, tuned with precision by Giannini, features a 930cc engine that has been meticulously enhanced to produce an impressive 54 horsepower. This was achieved through several modifications, including the installation of a specific camshaft designed to optimize performance and a lightweight alloy oil pan to reduce weight and improve overall efficiency. Additionally, the vehicle was equipped with a dashboard tachometer, providing the driver with precise engine speed readings, a feature that underscored its sporty character. The Giannini 950 made its debut at the prestigious Turin Auto Salon in 1964, where it captured the attention of automotive enthusiasts and industry experts alike. The Turin Auto Salon, renowned for showcasing innovative and groundbreaking vehicles, provided the perfect stage for the Giannini 950 to shine. Its unveiling was met with considerable interest, highlighting the collaborative efforts of Fiat and Giannini in pushing the boundaries of what the Fiat 850 Coupé Vignale could achieve. Despite the enthusiasm and admiration it garnered, the Giannini 950 remained a one-off creation. This singular status adds to its allure and mystique, making it a coveted piece of automotive history among collectors and enthusiasts. The reasons behind its limited production remain a topic of speculation, with some suggesting that the costs associated with its specialized tuning and unique components may have played a role.
