01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Maserati A6G 2000 Frua Chassis 2028, a remarkable example of Italian automotive craftsmanship, was completed in March 1952. This car was part of the A6G series, renowned for its combination of Maserati’s engineering excellence and the fine coachbuilding of Carrozzeria Frua. The car was built as a left-hand-drive (LHD) model, featuring the distinctive bodywork designed by Frua that exuded elegance and performance. Chassis #2028 was initially delivered to Guglielmo Dei of Rome, Italy, in 1952. Over time, the car changed hands and was later owned by prominent figures such as Tony Parravano of California, USA. Parravano was a well-known car collector, and this Maserati became part of his collection. The car also passed through the hands of John Brookman, another American owner, before ultimately being acquired by Jarl de Boer, also from California, USA. Throughout its history, the Maserati A6G 2000 Coupé Frua Chassis #2028 underwent several ownership transitions, each contributing to its fascinating journey. In recent years, the car underwent a full restoration by Touring Superleggera in Milan, bringing it back to its original glory. The restoration process involved painstaking attention to detail, ensuring that both the aesthetics and mechanics of the car were preserved and revitalized to their former splendor. Today, the Maserati A6G 2000 Coupé Frua chassis 2028 is a fine example of the elegance and engineering that Maserati and Frua were known for in the early 1950s. The car’s recent restoration only adds to its prestige, reaffirming its place as one of the most iconic models of its era.

CI currently assigns chassis 2028 to the 26–27 May 1951 Rome Pincio concours as both Class Winner and Special Prize, but the car's Frua body was not completed until 1952 and authoritative histories place its Pincio Gran Premio d'Onore after the 1952 Turin Motor Show. The Rome award therefore belongs to the 1952 event, not 1951. General · Unreviewed
