01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Ferrari Testarossa Spider Pavesi represents a rare and unique variant of the iconic Testarossa model, handcrafted by Sergio and Emilio Pavesi of Carrozzeria Pavesi. This exclusive creation saw the transformation of two Testarossa coupes into open-top spiders, showcasing the innovative vision and craftsmanship of the Pavesi brothers. Constructed with meticulous attention to detail, the Testarossa Spider Pavesi exemplifies automotive artistry at its finest. Each specimen, available in striking black and vibrant yellow finishes, retained the original Testarossa’s powerful engine configuration without any modifications. However, the second vehicle boasted an electronic top system, adding a touch of modern convenience to the classic design. Unlike the official factory Spider version of the Testarossa, which was limited to a single chassis (#62897) crafted by Ferrari and Pininfarina for esteemed Italian industrialist Gianni Agnelli in 1986, the Spider Pavesi was an independent endeavor by Carrozzeria Pavesi. While not sanctioned by Ferrari as an official Spider variant, these bespoke creations captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts with their distinctive styling and open-air driving experience. The decision to transform the Testarossa coupes into spiders reflects the Pavesi brothers’ innovative spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design. By embracing the challenge of converting a legendary supercar into a convertible form, Sergio and Emilio Pavesi demonstrated their expertise in custom fabrication and engineering. Despite their unofficial status, the Testarossa Spider Pavesi models garnered attention for their rarity and exclusivity. With only two examples ever produced, these handcrafted spiders occupy a special place in Ferrari’s storied history, embodying the spirit of individuality and craftsmanship that defines the marque.
