THE STORY

Overview

Carrozzeria Fona was a coachbuilding workshop in Sant’Eufemia, on the eastern side of Brescia. Active before the Second World War, it produced special sporting bodies as well as carrying out conventional bodywork. Achille Fona ran the workshop until the 1960s and competed in the Mille Miglia in a Fiat 1100-based sports car of his own construction, including the 1949 event.

A Fiat Topolino with Fona coachwork is documented in 1949. Historian Dino Brunori also suggested that the workshop may have made the body of the Fiat 500A Mor & Sca, entered in the 1950 Mille Miglia, on the basis of styling similarities and local testimony. That attribution remains a hypothesis, not a documented commission. The precise foundation year of the workshop is not established.
