THE STORY
Overview
The Belloni enterprise traces its documented origins to the coach-making trade in Milan. The Premiata Fabbrica di Carrozze Giovanni Belloni is recorded in the Ecomuseo Martesana heritage catalogue with the date 1811, at Via Solferino 56, near the Conca dell’Incoronata. The catalogue describes the firm as a supplier to the Austrian Imperial Court and notes influences from French carriage-making techniques and the Boschetti company.
This early history concerns horse-drawn carriage construction. It must not be presented as the foundation of an automobile coachbuilder in 1811. The relationship between the historical carriage works and later motor-car bodybuilding requires separate documentary verification before those activities can be attributed to a single continuous business.
