01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Fiat 125 Familiare Fissore is a rare coachbuilt station wagon variant of the Fiat 125, crafted by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Fissore in the late 1960s. Based on the Fiat 125 sedan, this model exemplifies the tradition of Italian coachbuilding, where independent designers created bespoke bodies atop standard mechanical underpinnings. Carrozzeria Fissore, established in Savigliano, Italy, was renowned for its custom automotive designs during the mid-20th century. In the late 1960s, Fissore collaborated with Fiat to produce a limited series of vehicles featuring unique bodywork. Among these was the Fiat 125 Familiare, which combined Fiat’s engineering with Fissore’s distinctive styling. The Fiat 125 Familiare Fissore retained the mechanical components of the standard Fiat 125. It was powered by a front-mounted, inline-four engine, with available displacements including 1.6 litres (98 horsepower) and 1.8 litres (105 horsepower). These engines were coupled with a five-speed manual transmission, delivering power to the rear wheels. The vehicle’s suspension system and braking components were also sourced from the Fiat 125, ensuring reliable performance and handling characteristics. The design of the 125 Familiare showcased Fissore’s commitment to elegance and practicality. The body featured clean lines, a spacious interior, and subtle chrome accents, distinguishing it from Fiat’s standard offerings. The interior was appointed with high-quality materials, reflecting the bespoke nature of the vehicle. Production numbers for the Fiat 125 Familiare Fissore were extremely limited, contributing to its exclusivity and desirability among collectors today. The collaboration between Fiat and Fissore on this model exemplifies the era’s trend of combining reliable mechanical underpinnings with bespoke coachbuilt bodies to create unique and stylish automobiles.
