01 / THE STORY

History & context

The O.S.C.A. MT8 is the second model planned for the revived O.S.C.A. brand, following the MT6 SUV-coupé. Presented in pre-series form, the MT8 is described as a larger “Sportover di classe”, a crossover coupé intended to combine a more elegant grand-touring character with the practical layout of a modern SUV. Designed by Italdesign, the car measures 4.87 metres in length, placing it above the MT6 in the new O.S.C.A. range. Its body follows the same general direction introduced by the smaller model, with a coupé-like roofline, a high beltline and a more dynamic stance than a conventional SUV. The proportions suggest a vehicle aimed at clients looking for a spacious crossover with a more sporting appearance. The MT8 is based on a Changan platform, used as the industrial starting point for the project. As with the MT6, the platform is developed further through Italian engineering work and through partnerships with national automotive suppliers. This approach follows the strategy of the Historic Italian Brands project: using an international technical base, then adding Italian design, tuning and vehicle integration. Mechanically, the O.S.C.A. MT8 will be equipped with a 2.0 TGDI petrol engine. Two drivetrain configurations are planned: front-wheel drive and an innovative predictive all-wheel-drive system. The latter is intended to improve traction and stability by distributing torque before grip loss becomes critical, rather than reacting only after wheel slip occurs. The MT8 is therefore positioned as the more mature and higher-segment model in the reborn O.S.C.A. line-up. While the historic O.S.C.A. name is linked to lightweight sports and racing cars built by the Maserati brothers between 1947 and 1967, the new MT8 translates that badge into the current crossover market, with a larger body, turbocharged powertrain and a focus on comfort, road presence and all-weather usability.
